Reason Number 46 - Meet the New ‘Ugly American’

`Fault Lines On The Face Of China: 50 Reasons Why China May Never Be Great’ - Excerpt 89
“China implicitly links its history with that of Africa, suggesting the two countries share a common experience. According to Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan, China ‘stood firmly with the African people and provided them with moral support and material assistance in their strenuous struggle to overthrow colonial rule and gain national liberation.’

In explaining China’s policies towards Africa, the state-controlled Xinhua news agency said that ‘Sharing similar historical experience, China and Africa have all along sympathized with and supported each other in the struggle for national liberation and forged a profound friendship.’

It is our view that the above comments are profound nonsense. The experience of China, for fewer than one hundred years subjugated to the economic whims of Western and Eastern colonial powers, simply cannot be compared to the centuries that Africa, as an entire continent, suffered of slavery, one of the gravest sins committed in world history, exploitation by white colonialists, and the continuation today of a lack of positive investment from developed countries. China’s suggestion that its own history mirrors that of Africa is every bit as offensive as its claim that the Nanjing Massacre was equivalent to the Holocaust.”

I’ll love you, dear, I’ll love you
Till China and Africa meet
And the river jumps over the mountain
And the salmon sing in the street

But what would Wystie have said if he saw what really happened when China and Africa met?

`Fault Lines On The Face Of China: 50 Reasons Why China May Never Be Great’ - Excerpt 90
“The truth of the matter is that China’s behavior in Africa is greedy, rapacious and cruel. Under a mantle of ‘mutual benefit’ China is exploiting Africa at a colossal rate, buying up vast amounts of mineral resources from the continent and offering little but window-dressing such as stadiums, bridges and other infrastructure in return.

Far from wanting to help Africa, the record shows that China has explicitly hurt the continent, by using its membership of the UN Security Council to veto action aimed at stopping genocide in Sudan. Though in 2007, under international pressure and the threat of an Olympic boycott, China began to make limited moves to allow international action in the country, it is clear that China is perfectly willing to tolerate any level of abuse in its quest for resources. And not only did China veto UN action in Sudan – it also sold the Sudanese government weapons with which it committed crimes against humanity.

China is very quick to downplay suffering in other countries, claiming the death toll in Sudan (around 200,000) was greatly exaggerated. Yet when anyone has the temerity to suggest that the China’s figure of 300,000 victims in the Nanjing massacre is exaggerated (for example pointing out that many estimates place the death toll between 150,000 and 300,000) Beijing reacts with apoplectic fury.

For China, Africa is just a continent to be exploited – a source of raw materials and a destination for goods produced so cheaply that they drive African firms out of business. While China is happy to build extensive infrastructure which will let it more efficiently plunder the continent, purely altruistic investment, such as in schools and hospitals, is almost unheard of.”

Out of all the manifold ways in which the crass opinions of the PRC and its Han inhabitants (although there's fuck all difference between the opinions of the government and those of the Han population so why differentiate?) infuriate me, the way in which they systematically shit in the mouth of historical objectivity perhaps takes the biscuit.

The way in which people who have never visited China liken the PRC to something out of 1984 is tedious and ignorant, but when it comes to the manipulation of history the Chinese might as well credit 'Big Brother' as the author of their history books. Not so much because they're full of outrightly fictitious hogwash (C.F. 90% of Tibetan society consisted of serf slaves before Communist invasion), but for the fact that any shade of nuance is whitewashed.

The British made China get addicted to opium and took Hong Kong. End of story. Why bother to mention the corrupt Chinese officials who happily took a cut and did nothing to clamp down on the drugs trade, or the fact that Hong Kong grew exponentially after it fell into British hands because tens of thousands of Chinese fled there out of their own volition? Mere details, far too troublesome to mention when there's a politically expedient inferiority complex to be fed.

And then there's the Summer Palace which as every Chinese student knows, was burned down by the rapacious imperialist barbarians. But let's not mention the fact that this was a deliberately restrained response to the torture and murder of several diplomats.

This isn't to pardon the excesses of imperialism, but the deliberately disingenuous black-and-white reductionism of the PRC is symptomatic of the way in which the PRC's population is brainwashed into uncritical bovine thoughtlessness. Hence, NOONE in the entire fucking country can even for argument's sake accept the fact that Taiwan functions as an independent nation, regardless of whether it ought to be part of the PRC or not (something which EVERY Taiwanese person I've ever talked to has scoffed at, incidentally), and a mere handful raise questions about the validity of spending billions on the (already forgotten) Olympics when tens of millions have no healthcare...and so on and so on. I'm sure that these trifling historical details can be found buried away in the archives at Peking University somewhere, but they're sure as hell absent from the minds of millions of Chinese happy to bleat about the Summer Palace and opium.

cognizant,

I think you people (of course including cb and his commrades) are so confused with China.

cognizant and cb (ccb), are worrying people in disguise. For China is rapidly developing itself at an unprecedent rate never seen in history of mankind, ccb compares China's progresses with the decline in their homelands. The Fear of China is immense.

ccb also lives in a illusion that China will never be great unless every single Chinese has

1. 100% free health care
2. 100% free education
3. 100% free housing for the poor
4. 100% access to clean water
5. 100% and so on......

Just give me one example which state manages all the above.

Japan has not.
Hong Kong has not.
Taiwan has not.
Europe has not ( countless beggers and homeless in the street of London )

Sorry to see that ccb ever lives in the shadow of fear of progressive China.

All you've done is tell us what you'd like foreigners to be thinking.

By the way, with regards to China apparently needing 100% free water/ housing/ education etc etc...where does Chinabounder make those claims??

Does considering things critically trigger migraines amongst the inhabitants of the PRC?

1. Health care costs money and someone has to pay for it. It is an illusion to get it completely for free.

2. In my country (Germany) admission to schools and most universities is free of charge.

3. Most countries in Western Europe offer accomodation for homeless people for a limited period of time.

4. Where I live I it is perfectly save to drink tap water. I do not even have to boil the water before drinking.

While China is developing, do you really think you will get cleaner water in the future?

Some people in China get rich (so-called development) at the expense of many other Chinese citizens. You just have to look at the Sanlu milk skandal.

"..Sudanese government weapons with which it committed crimes against humanity."

Awww... boo hoo crimes against humanity :*( oh that's so sad poor little Sudanese let me play you the worlds smallest violin.

Britain and Europe both are increasingly atheist and reject the humanist christian church even CB in all his humanist wisdom is a godless piece of Euro trash.

CB why don't you just admit you've been in China too long, stop putting up this show, and now you've become one of those soulless Asian savages that our forefathers tried to civilize, educate and maturate.

Thanks for ruining it all asshole, the way you acted in China you might as well have been one of them.

Good to be a german.

Unfortunately, cb is a flithy homeless brit + aussie.

Even the german needs to pay for their health care. Very sad. 200 years of capitalism.

Drinking tap water is forbidden in London.

Everybody sees a simple truth now. No country is perfect.

Sweden has 100% free education, housing for the poor, healthcare, access to clean water, and so on...

As does Norway...

As does Finland...

As did Ireland until we elected the Fianna Fáil dipshits...
